Junior High Cross Country Faces Avon Lake
The Amherst Junior High School cross country teams went head-to-head with Avon Lake in the Candy Run, named for the bags of candy won by the top seven finishers in each race.
In the 7th-grade girls race, Amherst won 18-37. Mia Kothe finished 1st, followed by Elyse Sixbey (2nd), Lillian Tenorio (4th), Riley Cisar (5th), and Ryliegh Mull (6th).
Avon Lake won the 8th-grade girls race 19-44, but Taelyn Nida still earned a bag of candy with a 2nd-place finish.

The 7th-grade boys did not have enough runners to score, but the 8th-grade boys beat Avon Lake 27-28. Isaac Locker finished 2nd, followed by Ben Heinowski (4th), Alec Wenger (6th), and Elijah Sturgeon (7th).
The Comets will head to Vermilion for the Obenour Invitational on September 27.
