Boys Basketball handed previously unbeaten Keystone its first loss of the season with a 71-67 win Friday night in front of a sold-out home crowd.
The Comets entered the matchup at 6-1, facing an 8-0 Keystone squad, and set the tone early by taking a 17-11 lead after the first quarter. Keystone responded in the second period, using a strong offensive push to carry a 32-25 advantage into halftime.
Coming out of the break, the Comets elevated its intensity on both ends of the floor. They chipped away at the deficit throughout the third quarter, turning defensive stops into transition opportunities and closing the gap to just two points, 49-47, heading into the final period.
Jack Coleman led the Comets with 18 points, while Stanley Robinson added 15 and Mason Lymer finished with 11. Keystone was paced by Colt Cowling’s game-high 29 points, with Liam Goran contributing 19.
With the win, Amherst improves its record and snaps Keystone’s undefeated start. The Comets return to conference play next Tuesday, traveling to Elyria for a 7 p.m. tipoff.
