Amherst Football Opens Season with 48-6 Win over Sandusky
Amherst opened the 2025 season in impressive fashion Friday night, rolling to a 48-6 victory over Sandusky in a game hosted at Avon Lake as construction continues at Spitzer Stadium.
Quarterback Cy Christensen got the Comets rolling early, connecting with Cael Charles for touchdowns of 76 and 5 yards in the first quarter. After Sandusky cut the deficit to 14-6, the Comets took control with three second-quarter scores. Michael Passerrello broke through for a 7-yard touchdown, Peyton Gilles added a 6-yard run, and Christensen capped the half with a 15-yard rushing score to make it 35-6 at the break.
Christensen added his second rushing touchdown of the night on a 22-yard run in the third quarter before Landon Johnson closed out the scoring with a 17-yard run in the fourth. Kicker Jack Coleman was perfect on five PATs. Josh Tomlin was 1-1 on PATs.
Amherst improves to 1-0 and will travel to Buckeye next Friday at 7 p.m.
