Baseball delivered a dominant performance at home Tuesday, beating Avon 9-1 behind a strong showing on the mound and consistent production at the plate.
Harrison Schneider set the tone, tossing six scoreless innings of one-hit baseball while striking out eight.
The Comets jumped out early with a four-run first inning. Cooper Bingham singled to bring home Cole Charles, then later scored on a Schneider groundout. Eli Toyoda followed with a two-run double to plate Landon Wolf and Zach Diedrick, giving Amherst a 4-0 lead after one.
Amherst continued to add on throughout the game. Schneider helped his own cause with an RBI single in the second to score Nick Wilkinson. In the third, Wilkinson singled home Tyler Denn to make it 6-0. Toyoda struck again in the fourth with an RBI single, scoring Schneider.
The Comets added two more in the fifth, highlighted by a Cole Charles RBI groundout that scored Cole Marquez and an RBI single from Landon Wolf to bring home Wilkinson.
