Baseball picked up a 10-4 road win over Saint Ignatius High School on Monday at Baldwin Wallace University.
The Comets struck first in the opening inning when Cole Charles scored on a balk to give Amherst a 1-0 lead. Amherst then broke the game open with a five-run second inning. Tyler Denn delivered an RBI single to score Zach Diedrick, while Cole Marquez drew a bases-loaded walk to bring home Eli Toyoda. Charles followed with a two-run double that plated Zaiden Rosario and Denn, and Marquez later scored on a Cooper Bingham groundout to extend the lead to 6-0.
Amherst continued to add on throughout the afternoon. Marquez lifted a sacrifice fly in the third inning to score Diedrick, and Toyoda added an RBI single in the fourth to score Bingham. St. Ignatius answered with runs in the fourth and fifth innings, but the Comets added insurance in the seventh. Rosario drove in Diedrick with a sacrifice fly before Marquez capped the scoring with an RBI single that brought home Toyoda.
Diedrick earned the win on the mound for Amherst as the Comets.
