Baseball Defeats Berea-Midpark

Baseball opened up conference play on Monday at Amherst Steele High School, defeating Berea-Midpark 11-0.
The Comets struck first in the bottom of the first inning when Harrison Schneider lifted a sacrifice fly to score Marquez, giving Amherst an early 1-0 lead. That score held steady through the first four innings as Amherst’s pitching and defense kept Berea-Midpark off the board.
The game broke open in the bottom of the fifth inning as Amherst erupted for eight runs. Cole Charles ignited the rally with a solo home run to right field. Cooper Bingham followed with a triple to score Marquez, and later crossed the plate on a balk. Schneider delivered again with an RBI single, and Eli Toyoda added a sacrifice fly. Zaiden Rosario chipped in with an RBI single, and Charles capped the inning with an RBI double to right, extending the lead to 8-0.
Amherst continued the offensive surge in the sixth inning when Schneider blasted a two-run home run, scoring Wolf and pushing the lead to 11-0 to secure the run-rule victory.
On the mound, Cael Charles was outstanding, earning the win after tossing five shutout innings while striking out 8 batters.
