Baseball Defeats Elyria on Youth Night

Baseball delivered a dominant performance Tuesday night, defeating Elyria in a game highlighted both on and off the field during Youth Night.

Before first pitch, the future of Amherst Baseball joined the Comets on the field for pregame introductions and the National Anthem, setting the tone for a memorable evening.

The Comets wasted no time offensively, breaking the game open in the bottom of the second inning when Cooper Bingham launched a grand slam. Bingham finished a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate, driving in six runs.

On the mound, Harrison Schneider was in complete control, tossing a five-inning complete game. He allowed just two hits while striking out nine batters in a dominant outing.

Amherst’s offense was firing on all cylinders, with nine different players recording at least two hits. Larry Polonkay led the way, going 3-for-3 with two RBIs. Nick Wilkinson added a 2-for-2 performance that included a double, while Landon Wolf went 2-for-2 with two doubles and two RBIs.

Schneider also contributed at the plate, finishing 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs. Gavin Ford (2-for-2), Cole Marquez (2-for-2 with a triple and two RBIs), Braylon Hans (2-for-3), and Christian Wolf (2-for-3) rounded out the balanced offensive attack.

The Comets’ all-around effort made for a special night, celebrating the program’s future while showcasing its current firepower.
