Baseball Opens 2026 With Win over Vermilion

Baseball opened the 2026 season in dominant fashion on Sunday, defeating Vermilion 14-0.
On the mound, Brody Glick, Spencer Cain, and Zander Hopkins combined to throw a no-hitter, striking out 10 batters in a commanding performance.
The Comets wasted no time getting on the board in the first inning. Cooper Bingham scored on a wild pitch to open the scoring, followed by an RBI single from Zach Diedrick that brought home Landon Wolf. Eli Toyoda added a two-run double later in the inning to give Amherst an early 4-0 advantage.
Amherst continued to build its lead in the second when Wolf launched a two-run home run, scoring Bingham to make it 6-0.
Toyoda stayed hot at the plate in the third, blasting a solo home run to left field.
The Comets broke the game open in the fourth inning. Gavin Ford delivered an RBI single to score Diedrick, while multiple runs later scored on wild pitches. Bingham capped the inning with a three-run home run, bringing home Wilkinson and Marquez to extend the lead to 14-0.
Offensively, Bingham led the way going 3-for-4 with three runs scored, a double, a home run, and four RBIs. Toyoda was perfect at the plate, finishing 3-for-3 with two runs scored, a double, a home run, and four RBIs.
