Baseball Powers Past Defiance at PBR Ohio Spring Classic

Baseball used a fast start and a late offensive surge to secure a 10-7 road win over Defiance in the PBR Ohio Spring Classic on Saturday. The Comets broke the game open with a combined seven runs in the fifth and sixth innings to pull away.

Brody Glick earned the win on the mound, striking out six over five innings of work. Zach Diedrick picked up the save, tossing two innings in relief to close out the victory. Glick and Landon Wolf were named Players of the Game.

Amherst jumped out early in the first inning when Cole Charles doubled to score Nick Wilkinson, followed by a sacrifice fly from Wolf to plate Charles and make it 2-0.

The Comets added to their lead in the third, as Diedrick drew a bases-loaded walk to bring home Charles and extend the advantage to 3-0.

Amherst created separation in the fifth inning. Diedrick delivered an infield single to score Cooper Bingham, and consecutive bases-loaded walks by Cole Marquez and Nick Wilkinson pushed the lead to 6-0.

After Defiance cut into the deficit, Amherst answered again in the sixth. Landon Wolf blasted a two-run home run to right field, while Eli Toyoda added a sacrifice fly and Gavin Ford contributed an RBI single to stretch the lead to 10-3.

Defiance mounted a late rally, but the Comets held on as Diedrick shut the door to secure the 10-7 win.
