Baseball Wins District Championship

Baseball captured the OHSAA Division II Brunswick District Championship on Thursday with a 7-0 victory over Stow at Brunswick High School.
The Comets wasted no time offensively in the bottom of the first inning. Cooper Bingham blasted a three-run home run to score Nick Wilkinson and Cole Charles, giving Amherst an early 3-0 advantage. Later in the inning, Eli Toyoda singled home Landon Wolf as the Comets built a 4-0 lead after one inning of play.
Amherst continued to add on in the second inning. Bingham drove in Wilkinson with a sacrifice fly before Harrison Schneider singled home Wolf to extend the lead to 6-0.
The Comets added their final run in the third inning when Cole Marquez singled to score Zach Diedrick, pushing the advantage to 7-0.
Cael Charles was outstanding on the mound, tossing a complete-game shutout while striking out 11 and allowing just two hits.
With the district championship victory, Amherst advances to the OHSAA Division II Regional Semifinal at Oberlin College, where the Comets will face Brecksville on Wednesday, June 3 at 5 p.m.
