Boys Basketball Pulls Away in Win Over Brookside

Amherst built separation in the second half and pulled away for a 94-71 home victory over Brookside on Saturday at Amherst Steele High School.
The Comets edged Brookside 23-21 after one quarter and carried a slim 45-42 advantage into halftime after a tightly contested first half. Amherst began to create breathing room in the third quarter, outscoring Brookside to take a 71-60 lead heading into the final period.
A balanced offensive attack fueled the decisive fourth quarter, as Amherst stretched the margin and closed out the win by 23 points. Five Comets finished in double figures, highlighting the depth of the scoring effort.
Jack Coleman led Amherst with 20 points. Stanley Robinson added 19 points and connected on five three-pointers, while Cole Scanlon followed with 17 points, including four shots from beyond the arc. Cy Christensen and Mason Lymer each contributed 11 points to round out the double-digit scorers.
Amherst will return to action on Tuesday, hosting Elyria at 7 p.m. in a home matchup that will also serve as Teacher Appreciation Night.
