Boys Basketball Wins on Senior Night

Boys Basketball celebrated Senior Night in style, closing the regular season with a 68-59 victory over North Ridgeville on Friday night.
Before the opening tip, the Comets honored their basketball seniors David Dudziak, Stanley Robinson, Peyton Leibacher, Cy Christensen, and Andrew Balicki for their dedication and contributions to the program. The recognition continued at halftime as Amherst celebrated cheer seniors Peytan Carpenter, Alaina Jarnigan, Selah O’Brien, Cali Smith, and Myla Young, along with dance seniors Ayranna Henderson, Emilee Smith, and Bella Volpe.
Amherst set the tone early, jumping out to a 16-7 lead after the first quarter behind strong defensive pressure. North Ridgeville responded in the second quarter, battling back to tie the game at 23-23 by halftime.
The Comets regained control coming out of the locker room, outscoring the visitors 20-13 in the third quarter to take a 43-36 advantage. Amherst continued to build momentum in the fourth quarter, leaning on timely shooting and steady execution to secure the nine-point win.
Jack Coleman delivered a standout performance, scoring a game-high 31 points, including 28 in the second half to fuel the Comets’ surge. Cole Scanlon added 10 points in support. North Ridgeville was led by Luke Rowe, who finished with 19 points.
With the win, Amherst concludes the regular season with a 13-9 overall record and a 7-7 mark in the Southwestern Conference. The OHSAA Tournament draw is scheduled for Sunday, February 22, with the Comets set to open postseason play in early March.
