Boys bowling secured the Southwestern Conference Championship on Sunday at Nautical Lanes, completing a dominant league season with a title earned through a combination of head-to-head matches and the conference tournament.
The Comets entered the tournament with a perfect 7-0 conference record and needed a first- or second-place finish in the tournament to claim the outright championship. Amherst delivered under pressure, finishing atop the final standings and separating itself from the field by 203 pins.
Following the individual games, Amherst held the lead with a team score of 3,203. North Ridgeville sat in second at 2,980 after the individual portion but slipped to third following the Baker games. Avon Lake, which was fourth after individual games, surged during the Baker format to finish as the tournament runner-up with a final score of 4,137.
Amherst sealed the championship with a strong Baker performance, posting a six-game Baker total of 1,137 to bring its final team score to 4,340.
Individually, Brady Smith led the way with games of 259, 241, and 278 for a 778 series to earn individual champion honors. Ethan Burich followed with a 669 series, rolling games of 211, 213, and 245 to place fifth overall. Garrett Smith contributed a 624 series with games of 157, 200, and 267, while Grant Taylor added a 603 series with games of 233, 191, and 179. Trenton Roberts rounded out the scoring with a 529 series after games of 193, 177, and 159.
In the Baker portion, the Comets rolled games of 225, 148, 150, 188, 222, and 204 to close out the tournament and confirm their place atop the conference.
The championship marks the third Southwestern Conference title in program history for Boys Bowling, following previous league championships in 2023 and 2024, and continuing the Comets’ run of success with the 2026 title.
