The Steele Boys Cross Country Team wrapped up their 2025 season at the OHSAA Regional Championships in Boardman, capping off a strong year of growth and perseverance. The Comets were represented by five individual qualifiers, each running tough races against some of the best competition in the state.
Senior Captain Asa Nicely led the way for the Comets, finishing in 73rd place with a time of 17:19.0. Asa closed out his senior season in impressive fashion, improving his Boardman Invitational course time from the September Invitational by over 70 seconds. His leadership and consistency have been instrumental in setting the standard for the team this fall.
Freshman Jackson Strawn continued to impress in his debut high school postseason, crossing the line in 17:55.4 to place 161st overall.
Sophomore Elias Nicely followed with a strong race of 18:20.1 (208th), while Freshman Carter Banyas finished close behind in 18:31.7 (231st).
Sophomore Cale Miller rounded out the Comet qualifiers, finishing in 18:59.6 (271st) in the field of 344 total runners.

Each Comet demonstrated grit and determination throughout the challenging Boardman course, steadily moving up through the field as the race unfolded. The performance was a fitting end to a season defined by steady improvement, teamwork, and resilience.
Congratulations to all the runners and coaches on a successful season — and to the underclassmen who gained valuable experience for the future of the Comet program.
