The Amherst Steele varsity boys soccer team picked up a dominating 8-0 win over Holy Name on Saturday in non-conference action.

Ty Pinto got things started for the Comets, finishing a one v. one off a tremendous Matthew Hammond assist.

Minutes later, Landon Boone dribbled through a crease in the Holy Name defense and slotted a near-post shot past the goalkeeper to increase the lead to two. Though the Comets had numerous chances, the Green Wave defense held them in check until halftime.

Led by Matthew Hammond, the Steele offense exploded in the second half. Hammond started things off by beating two defenders on the right side of the field, then drilling a 35-yard shot that curled into the back of the net. But he didn't stop there, as he followed that up with a brilliant cross to the back post that found Pinto's head to extend the Comets lead to four. Minutes later, Kameron Kadow buried a low, hard shot that eliminated any chance of a Holy Name comeback, helped by a Cristiano Reyes assist.

Noah Clinton added two insurance goals late in the match, one off a nifty assist by Boone and one off a through ball from Ethan Reed. Reed added the icing on the cake with his first-ever varsity goal off a Chris Foisy assist.

Gavin Ford, Gavin Beckler, Evan Ferancy, Carter Boone, Lukas Hassing, Ryan Sutton, and Bryce Reed had tremendous defensive games for the Comets, while Casey Giancaterino and Aiden Haney split the shutout in goal.

The Comets improved to 8-3-1 on the season and will travel to North Ridgeville for a key SWC matchup on Wednesday.
