The SWC has historically been one of the toughest soccer conferences in the area and that was definitely on display on Wednesday night, as Amherst Steele battled to a 1-1 tie against Olmsted Falls.
The Comets started strong, sending several dangerous chances across the box from Jaxon Perez and Matthew Hammond. Ben Thompson forced several turnovers up top and Kameron Kadow, Landon Boone, and Cristiano Reyes controlled the middle of the field, but Steele could not find the net and it was scoreless going into the half.

After several near misses, Matthew Hammond finally broke through, one-timing a cross from Perez past the diving Olmsted Falls goalkeeper to give the Comets a short-lived lead. Unfortunately, the Bulldogs would respond minutes later to knot things up and Steele would have to settle for the tie.
Gavin Beckler had an outstanding game on defense, including a clearance off the goal line in the first half. Carter Boone, Gavin Ford, Evan Ferancy, and Teagan Debronsky also had outstanding games on defense. Casey Giancaterino made five saves, including an incredible diving save off a late free kick, to preserve the tie.

The Comets moved to 4-2-2 on the season (1-1-1 in the SWC). The team travels to Cleveland Heights on Saturday.

Before the game, the Steele soccer players honored an impactful teacher in their lives for Teacher Appreciation Night. Thank you to all the outstanding educators who have invested their time, energy, and effort into making our student-athletes better young men!
