Boys Volleyball Opens OHSAA Tournament With Win

Boys Volleyball advanced in the OHSAA postseason Tuesday night with a straight-set victory over Brecksville-Broadview Heights. After a competitive opening set, the Comets settled in and used a balanced offensive attack along with strong serving to pull away from the Bees for the 3-0 win.

Set Scores: 25-23, 25-16, 25-18

James Ludwig led the Comets attack with 19 kills, while Gavin Beckler added 14 kills and Mason Lymer finished with 7 kills. Joe Penano recorded 24 assists and Hector Mendez added 17 assists in the victory.

Defensively, Lymer totaled 13 digs, Beckler had 12, and Ludwig added 10. Ludwig also led the team with 22 receptions, followed by Beckler with 15 and Lymer with 9.

At the net, Evan Thomson registered 4 block kills, while Niko Dokovski and Ludwig each added 3. Beckler finished with 2 block kills. From the service line, Ludwig led the way with 3 aces, while Beckler and Penano each added one.

The Comets improve to 16-7 on the season and will host the winner of Howland and Walsh Jesuit on Thursday, May 14th in the next round of tournament play.
