Boys Volleyball Wins Thriller on Senior Night

Boys Volleyball battled through an energy-packed, back-and-forth Senior Night thriller to defeat Normandy in five sets on Thursday evening, 3-2.
After dropping the opening set 25-19, the Comets answered with a 25-18 victory in the second before Normandy reclaimed the lead with a 25-20 third-set win. Amherst responded once again in the fourth, 25-21, and survived an intense fifth set to secure the match with a 22-20 victory.
Leading the offensive attack was Gavin Beckler with 16 kills, while James Ludwig added 10 kills. Mason Lymer and Niko Dokovski each contributed 9 kills in the win.
Joe Penano finished with 22 assists and 3 aces, while Hector Mendez added 13 assists.
Defensively, Lymer recorded 19 digs, Ludwig had 15 digs, and Beckler added 10 digs. Beckler also led the team with 26 receptions, followed closely by Ludwig with 24 and Lymer with 15.
At the net, Lymer totaled 4 block kills, while Ludwig and Beckler each added 3. Evan Thomson contributed 2 block kills.
The Comets improve to 15-6 on the season and will return to action Friday, May 8th at home against Perrysburg.
