Girls basketball came up just short on Tuesday night, falling 50–47 in a hard-fought road matchup at Keystone High School. The Comets mounted an impressive late comeback, highlighted by Abby Broaddus’ 17-point performance, which included five three-pointers. Three of those came in rapid succession as Amherst erased a nine-point deficit to tie the game at 45.
Amalee Caldera added 16 points of her own, knocking down four three-pointers to keep the Comets within reach throughout the contest. With the game tied in the final minute, Callie Beckler stepped to the line and sank two free throws to give Amherst a 47–45 lead with 50 seconds remaining, but Keystone responded to reclaim the momentum and secure the win.
The Comets return to the court next Wednesday when they host North Ridgeville in their Southwestern Conference opener.
