Our Lady Comets would host defending SWC Champion Avon Lake in a midweek SWC clash and would come away with a solid 1-0 victory to stay atop the standings.
The first half would see our Comets with the lions share of possession and chances including Jillian Markowich, Bella Zagar, Paige Miller and Sienna Rebman all coming close to breaking the tie but excellent goalkeeping by Avon Lake would see us go into the break with the score knotted at 0-0.
The second half would see more of the same with the Comet backline having to deal with a steady stream of balls over the top from Cam Koski, one of the best players in the area, but they held and Haydn Beischlag was there to clean up anything that got through.
Meanwhile the mdifield of Issi McGee, Gabby Vasquez, Julyiet Harden and Jillian Markowich continued to dominate the middle of the park. It took another magical run by Paige Miller weaving through the Shoregal defense and launched a banger from 25 yards over the Lake keeper to break the tie and put the Comets up 1-0.
Amherst wouldn't be content to sit on the lead and pressed forward for more including a missile off the foot of Olivia Janosik that would rattle the crossbar and ricochet away.
In the end the clock ran down and the Comets take the three points.
The Lady Comets improve to 7-0 and 2-0 in SWC play. They return to action Saturday afternoon with a tough non conference matchup with the visiting Twinsburg Tigers.
