The Amherst Lady Comets became road warriors this weekend as they travelled south for the Warsaw River View Labor Day Showcase and came away with a solid 1-0 win over a very good Columbus Bexley team.

Folks had barely settled into their seats when Paige Miller crossed in for Issi McGee to smash into the Bexley netting for an early one goal lead.  Little did everyone know that would wrap the scoring for the day between two stout defenses.

The Comets would put Bexley under pressure the majority of the first half with Sienna Rebman and Jillian Markowich being able to get past the Bexley keeper but the touches would be heavy and they couldn’t sustain the finish.

The Steele back line led by Grace Bruewer, Ashley Ciura, Emelyn Lowery, Olivia Janosik and Haley Boyles would douse every Bexley attack and the one time a Bexley attacker got in, Haydn Beischlag was up to the challenge with a great save in a 1v1.

Jillian Markowich, Paige Miller, Issi McGee and Sienna Rebman would pose threats all game long and would come close to breaking the game open but great defending and goalkeeping would keep the score at 1-0.

In the end the Comets would make that early goal stand up to take home the spoils.
Issi McGee and Grace Bruewer would garner player of the game awards.

The Lady Comets improve to 6-0 (1-0) and return to action on Wednesday September 3 in SWC play as they host Avon Lake in a big conference match.
