Girls Tennis: Bussard and Nagy Qualify for OHSAA Districts

Highland High School hosted their Division I tennis sectional tournament on Monday and Wednesday, a tournament that, for most, is the culmination of their season.
For 3rd Singles Emma Timko, she fell to Westlake's Jaspreet Kaur 6-2 6-2, putting her stellar 2025 campaign to an end. Emma ended with a 15-12 record and 2nd Team All-SWC recognition!
For 2nd Doubles, Maria Bak and Avery Hawley, they also lost to Westlake's Marina Bendaly and Annabelle Scollin 6-1 6-1. Along with Junior Madison Clappas, the trio known as "Triple Trouble" ended with a 17-11 record and a 2nd Team All-SWC recognition!
For 1st Doubles, Sadi Dorazio and Cali Smith, they pushed deep into the draw, making it all the way to the quarterfinals. They defeated Olmsted Falls Zoe Pafford and Madi Milota 6-4 6-2, then finally got their lone win against North Ridgeville 6-3 6-7 13-11. The party finally ended when Magnificat's Maeve Soltesz and Maggie Steen put a stop to them 6-0 6-1. Sadi and Cali ended with a record of 11-18 and an All-SWC Honorable Mention.
For Freshman Sienna Nagy and Senior Kayla Bussard, however, they were not ready to go quietly into the night just yet.
Sienna fulfilled her duty as the #4 seed, placing 4th at the tournament and qualifying for districts! She did this by defeating:Cleveland Heights - Finn Natkeyicius - 6-0 6-2Rocky River - Lily Crull - 6-4 3-6 11-9Lakewood - Delaney Starr - 3-6 6-1 10-4
She would end up losing to Kayla in the semifinals and then to #3 Avon Lake's Kathleen Boatwright 6-2 6-3.
Kayla was the star of the show on both days, never dropping a single game until the final! She defeated:Valley Forge - Shiloh Anthony - 6-0 6-0Cleveland Heights - Virginia Lapides - 6-0 6-0Elyria - Danica Knepper - 6-0 6-0Steele - Sienna Nagy - 6-0 6-0Rocky River - Allie Huff - 6-4 6-0
Kayla won 10 straight sets, with 9 of them unblemished, en route to becoming sectional champion!
Kayla and Sienna will travel to Springside Athletic Club on Thursday October 9th for Day 1 of the District Tournament!
