Historic 400th Program Win for Amherst Hockey

Amherst Hockey reached a historic milestone Friday night, earning the 400th win in program history with a 3-2 victory over Hudson at the Kent State Ice Arena.
The win marked another landmark moment for Steve Morris, the only head coach in Amherst Hockey history, as he recorded the 400th victory of his career while continuing to build a tradition of sustained success for the Comets.
Hudson opened the scoring at the 10:01 mark of the first period when Nolan Carter assisted on a goal by Brody Carter, with Max Koerbel also earning an assist, to take a 1-0 lead. Amherst responded later in the period as Vinny Kelley scored at 3:27 of the first, finishing a play set up by Fisher Sims and Deakin Kelley.
After a tightly played second period, Amherst took the lead at the horn. With 38 seconds remaining in the period, Fisher Sims scored on a feed from Sebastian Smith to give the Comets a 2-1 advantage heading into the intermission.
Hudson tied the game at 5:40 of the third period when Nolan Carter found the net, assisted by Brody Carter. Amherst delivered the decisive moment late, as Vinny Kelley scored his second goal of the night with 47 seconds left in the game, finishing a play created by Fisher Sims.
Anthony Schubert anchored the Comets defensively in goal, recording 22 saves to preserve the one-goal victory. Amherst closed out the final seconds to secure the 3-2 victory, sealing a memorable night highlighted by the program’s 400th win under the guidance of its longtime and only head coach.
