Hockey beats Benedictine 3-2

Hockey earned a 3-2 victory over Benedictine in a GCHSHL Red Division matchup Tuesday night at North Park Ice Rink.
The visiting Bengals struck first on a power-play goal at the 4:11 mark of the opening period when Luca Bucci finished a feed from Max Roulet to give Benedictine a 1-0 lead after one.
Amherst responded in the second period, evening the score at 3:29 as Vinny Kelley found the back of the net off an assist from Mason Lamoreaux.
The Comets took control in the third period with a pair of goals. Fisher Sims put Amherst ahead 2-1 at the 13:55 mark, finishing a setup from Vinny Kelley. Vinny Kelley then added what proved to be the game-winning goal at 10:29, scoring off an assist from Noah Cheatham to extend the lead to 3-1.
Benedictine made it a one-goal game late in the third period when Adam Somich scored with help from Will Eshghy and Max Roulet, but Amherst held on down the stretch to secure the win.
Amherst will close out GCHSHL Red Division play this Sunday against Hudson at 3 p.m. at Winterhurst. The contest is a make-up of the weather-canceled game originally scheduled for Tuesday, January 20.
