Hockey Goes 2-0 on Day 1 of CVCA Christmas Tournament

Hockey opened the CVCA Christmas Tournament in dominant fashion, posting back-to-back shutouts on Saturday at the Dan Kostel Recreation Center to move to 2-0 in the event in Garfield Heights.
In the opener, the Comets overwhelmed Avon 9-0 with a five-goal first period that set the tone early. Fisher Sims recorded a hat trick, scoring twice in the opening period and adding another to help fuel the offensive surge. Noah Cheatham added a goal and multiple assists, while Vinny Kelley scored twice. Additional goals came from Deakin Kelley and Maddox Groom as Amherst continued to apply pressure throughout all three periods.
Amherst followed with another convincing performance in Game 2, shutting out CVCA 7-0. Noah Cheatham opened the scoring and added assists, while Shawn George, Anthony Palumbo, Vinny Kelley, Noah Riley (two goals), and Deakin Kelley all found the back of the net. The Comets controlled play in the second period with four goals to put the game away early.
The Comets will wrap up the CVCA Christmas Tournament on Sunday with a rematch against CVCA at 11 a.m., followed by a matchup with Avon at 2 p.m.
