Hockey completed a perfect run through the CVCA Christmas Hockey Tournament with an 8–0 victory over Avon on Sunday at the Dan Kostel Recreation Center, finishing the event with a 3–0 record.
The Comets wasted no time asserting control in today's game, scoring four times in the opening period to break things open early. Kylan Losiewicz opened the scoring at the 10:24 mark of the first period, finishing a setup from Fisher Sims and Noah Riley. Less than a minute later, Maddox Groom doubled the lead with assists from Vinny Kelley and Noah Cheatham, then struck again at 7:59 to make it 3–0. Fisher Sims capped the first-period surge with a power-play goal at 2:48, assisted by Deakin Kelley and Noah Riley.
Amherst continued to roll in the second period, adding three more goals to extend the margin. Losiewicz scored his second goal of the game at 11:35, followed by Anthony Palumbo’s goal at 6:17 off a feed from Mason Lamoreaux. Logan Basso closed out the period’s scoring at 1:48, pushing the lead to 7–0.
The Comets completed the shutout in the third period when Sims scored his second goal of the game at 11:35, assisted by Carter Banyas and Shawn George, sealing the tournament championship in dominant fashion.
Amherst’s defense was equally dominant throughout the tournament, anchored by flawless play in goal. Parker Pelc turned aside all 28 shots he faced in Sunday’s championship game and made 19 saves in Saturday’s win over Avon. Anthony Schubert recorded 12 saves in Saturday’s second game of the tournament against CVCA. Together, the Comet goaltenders did not allow a single goal during the entire tournament.
With the CVCA Christmas Tournament title secured, Amherst now turns its attention to Senior Night next Saturday, January 3rd, when the Comets host Olmsted Falls at North Park Recreation Center. Puck drop is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
