Hockey capped off Senior Night in style with a 6–2 victory over Olmsted Falls on Saturday at North Park Ice Rink, skating in front of a great home crowd.
Prior to the game, the Hockey Program honored its three seniors and their parents in a pregame ceremony recognizing Noah Cheatham, Vinny Kelley, and Anthony Palumbo. The Comets followed that moment with a complete team performance, breaking the game open with a dominant second period and finishing strong in the third.
After a scoreless first period, Amherst found the net at the 14:11 mark of the second period when Mason Lamoreaux opened the scoring with an unassisted goal. The Comets quickly built momentum as Noah Riley scored at 10:47, finishing a setup from Fisher Sims and Kylan Losiewicz. Riley struck again just over three minutes later at 7:41, once more capitalizing on a feed from Sims, along with Maddox Groom, to give Amherst a 3–0 lead.
Olmsted Falls briefly answered on the power play at 5:47 of the second period when Peyton Kosberg scored with an assist from William Eisenhardt. Amherst responded immediately and emphatically, as senior Vinny Kelley scored at 1:20, assisted by Fisher Sims and Deakin Kelley. Just 48 seconds later, Riley completed his hat trick with a goal at 0:32, assisted by Sims, sending Amherst into the second intermission with a commanding 5–1 advantage.
The Comets continued their strong play in the third period. Vinny added his second goal of the night at 7:03, scoring short-handed off an assist from Deakin Kelley to extend the lead to 6–1. Olmsted Falls added a late goal at 5:50 when Reid Carlson scored with help from Owen Butterfield, but the outcome was firmly in Amherst’s control.
In net, Parker Pelc turned in a solid performance for Amherst, recording 19 saves. Olmsted Falls goalie Michael Murphy faced heavy pressure throughout the night and finished with 38 saves.
