The Amherst Steele JV soccer team won a thrilling come-from-behind instant classic against Cleveland Heights on Saturday, 3-2.
The Comets got on the board first, as Jack Herrmann was fouled in the box and buried the ensuing penalty kick. But minutes later, the Tigers would get a PK of their own to even the score just before the half.
After falling behind 2-1 with ten minutes left, Amherst pushed forward to try to find the equalizer. Ethan Reed started the comeback campaign with a tremendous pass to Julius Donald, who dribbled to his left and ripped a shot past the Tiger goalkeeper.
With just under five minutes remaining, Connor Davis found the game-winner. Cole Phelan delivered a perfect corner kick which was deflected by Carson Szudarek to Davis, who calmly deposited his shot in the back of the net to send the Comets home victorious.
Rafael De Los Santos, Lukas Hassing, Liam Grandon, Davis Frizell, and Dom Lopez were outstanding on defense for the Comets and goalkeeper Aiden Haney made seven saves to earn the win in the net.
Amherst is now 6-2-1 on the season and takes on Elyria on Wednesday.
