The Amherst Steele JV soccer squad picked up its tenth win of the season with a hard-fought 5-0 win over Midview on Wednesday.
The Comets were deadlocked at zero for much of the game, playing to a scoreless first half despite several dangerous chances. Midway through the second half, Cole Phelan gathered in a nifty pass from Jameson Parsons and buried a shot in the back of the net to open up the floodgates.
Jack Herrmann scored minutes later on a penalty kick after getting dragged down in the box and the Comets offense exploded from there.
Herrmann scored again off a Phelan assist, then Carson Szudarek and Jensen Sanchez added insurance goals. Phelan and Chase Herold notched the final assists.
Aiden Haney and Grayson Brenot split the shutout in goal for the Comets, who improved to 10-3-1 on the season. Amherst hosts Vermilion on Saturday in the team's season finale.
