JV Girls Soccer defeats Wadsworth

The Junior Varsity Lady Comets played host to the visiting Wadsworth Grizzlies in what would be a monsoon at times and came away with a waterlogged 3-1 win.

The game had barely started when sophomore Clara Miller went unassisted for a quick opening goal to put the Comets up 1-0. Just minutes later Kinley Johnson was played in by Sofia Piwinski and the Comets would be up 2-0 and looked like it might turn into a runaway.

Wadsworth had other plans as their defense stiffened and they started to make inroads at the Amherst backline. That backline would bend but not break and we'd go into halftime at 2-0 Comets.

Wadsworth would show their quality and give themselves a lifeline when they put in a rebound off a wonderful Brynlee Angney save to cut the lead to 2-1.

With time winding down Cici Defilippo would go on a solo run through the heart of the Grizzly defense and put the game out of reach at 3-1.

Alex Sixbey and Brynlee Angney would share goalkeeping duties for the win as the junior Comets improved to 2-0 and return to action Saturday morning at Westlake.
