Kayla Bussard Lives out a Dream

On Wednesday, Kayla finally got to live her long time dream of competing in the State Tournament down at the Lidner Family Tennis Center, home of the ATP/WTA 1000 level Cincinnati Open. After being eliminated in the quarters of the sectional tournament 2 years in a row, followed by a first round bounce in the district tournament last year, Kayla was finally able to overcome the obstacles this year and take her 33-3 overall record and represent Steele at the State Tournament.
Although she was unable to overcome her first round opponent from Upper Arlington (6-2 6-0), she will take this experience and wear this accomplishment with pride, being the first singles qualifier since 1999. She ends her career at Steele with the school record not only for her single season record of 33-4, but also her career record of 91-30.
