Softball Beats Berea-Midpark 7-5

Softball picked up an SWC road win on Saturday, defeating Berea-Midpark 7-5 at Roehm Athletic Complex.
After a scoreless opening frame, Amherst broke through in the second inning when Morgan Lymer doubled home Briana Blankenship to take a 1-0 lead. Berea-Midpark answered in the bottom half, but the Comets regained the advantage in the third as Blankenship delivered an RBI single to score Karina Shuster, making it 2-1.
Amherst continued to apply pressure in the fifth inning, extending the lead to 3-1 when Sienna Rebman put the ball in play to bring home Shuster once again.
Clinging to a two-run lead entering the seventh, the Comets scored four runs. Rebman started the scoring with an RBI single, followed by a run-scoring double from Kayla Rhodes. Hailey Cleaver added an RBI single, and Lexi Fenton capped the inning with a triple to push the lead to 7-1.
The Comets held off a Berea-Midpark rally in the bottom of the seventh to secure the 7-5 victory.
