At Mentor High School in the second game of Saturday’s slate, Softball erased multiple deficits and delivered a 10-9 walk-off win over Chardon.
Chardon jumped out early with a run in the first and built a 3-0 lead before the Comets answered in the bottom of the second. Samantha Pearch got Amherst on the board with an RBI double, scoring Morgan Lymer. Moments later, Sienna Rebman delivered a sacrifice fly to left that brought home Hailey Cleaver, while Pearch also scored on the throw to tie the game at 3-3.
After Chardon regained the lead and eventually pushed ahead 7-4 in the fourth, the Comets continued to battle. Pearch scored on a wild pitch, and Leah Sprague ripped a double to left field to plate Briana Blankenship and Rebman, trimming the deficit to 7-6.
Trailing 9-6 in the sixth, the Comets again rallied. Makenna Dorobek singled to center to score Sprague, and Lymer followed with an RBI single to bring home Karina Shuster, cutting the lead to 9-8.
The Comets saved its biggest push for the seventh. Cleaver and Pearch drew walks to open the inning, and Blankenship laid down a bunt single to load the bases. Rebman came through with a clutch RBI single to left, scoring Cleaver and tying the game at 9-9. Two batters later, with the bases still loaded, Shuster drew a walk to force in Fenton for the walk-off win.
