Softball Claims 3rd Straight District Championship

Softball captured its 3rd straight OHSAA Division II District Championship on Thursday with an 11-0 run-rule victory over Shaker Heights.
The Comets broke through in the bottom of the 3rd inning when Makenna Dorobek launched a 3-run home run to deep centerfield, scoring Lexi Fenton and Leah Sprague to give Amherst a 3-0 lead.
Amherst erupted for eight runs in the 4th inning to put the game away. Briana Blankenship drove in Kayla Rhodes to make it 4-0 before Sienna Rebman singled home Samantha Pearch and Fenton for a 6-0 advantage. Dorobek added another RBI single to score Rebman, Karina Shuster singled home Sprague, and Morgan Lymer reached base to plate Dorobek. Pearch capped the inning with a 2-run double that scored Aubrey Sikora and Lymer to extend the lead to 11-0.
Karina Shuster earned the win in the circle, striking out 10 batters in the 5-inning run-rule victory.
With the win, the Comets advance to the OHSAA Division II Berea-Midpark Regional Semifinal where they will face Twinsburg on Wednesday, May 27th with a 2 p.m. first pitch.
