Softball Moves Onto District Final

Softball headed to the District Final after a 4-1 victory over Massillon Washington High School in the Ohio High School Athletic Association Division II District Semifinal on Monday at Sliman’s Diamond at Steele.

Comets opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning when Makenna Dorobek singled home Sienna Rebman to give the Comets a 1-0 lead. Dorobek delivered again in the third inning with an RBI double that plated Leah Sprague, extending the advantage to 2-0.

Massillon Washington answered with a solo home run in the top of the third inning to cut the deficit to 2-1, but Amherst responded in the fourth. Lexi Fenton drove in Rhodes with an RBI single before Briana Blankenship followed with an RBI double to score Fenton and push the lead to 4-1.

Karina Shuster earned the win in the circle as Amherst advanced to the District Final on Thursday, May 21 at Avon Lake High School against the winner of Tuesday’s semifinal between Shaker Heights High School and Rhodes High School.
