Softball Opens 2026 with a Win over Woodrow Wilson

Softball opened the 2026 Season with a shut out of Woodrow Wilson (WV) 10-0 in five innings to start their trip to Myrtle Beach.
The Comets wasted no time getting on the scoreboard in the top of the first inning. Karina Shuster sparked the offense with a two-run triple, driving in Fenton and Dorobek to make it 2-0. Kayla Rhodes followed with an RBI single to plate Shuster, extending the lead to 3-0 after one inning.
After three scoreless frames, Amherst added to its lead in the fourth when Hailey Cleaver crossed the plate on a passed ball, pushing the advantage to 4-0.
The Comets broke the game open in the fifth inning with a six-run outburst. Bri Blankenship and Samantha Pearch each drew bases-loaded walks to score Rhodes and Rebman. Fenton added an RBI on a fielder’s choice, scoring Caserta. Makenna Dorobek delivered a two-run single, bringing home Blankenship and Fenton, and Leah Sprague capped the scoring with a sacrifice fly to plate Dorobek, making it 10-0.
In the circle, Karina Shuster was dominant, striking out 13 batters while allowing just one hit over five shutout innings to secure the win.
