Softball earned a 6-0 road victory over Midview on Thursday, powered by three home runs and a dominant performance in the circle from Karina Shuster.
Shuster was in control throughout, striking out seven while allowing just two hits and one walk in the shutout effort.
The Comets broke through in the fifth inning when Samantha Pearch launched a solo home run to center field to give Amherst a 1-0 lead. Amherst added to its advantage in the sixth as Leah Sprague connected on a solo shot to left field, making it 2-0.
Amherst put the game away with a four-run seventh inning. Makenna Dorobek started the rally with a single, setting the stage for Morgan Lymer’s two-run home run to left field to extend the lead to 4-0. With the bases loaded later in the inning, Sprague was hit by a pitch to bring home a run, and Shuster followed with a groundout that scored another to cap the scoring at 6-0.
