Softball Stays Unbeaten at Grand Strand Classic with Win over Johnson Central

Wednesday in Myrtle Beach, Softball improved to 3-0 at the Grand Strand Softball Classic with a 5-3 victory over Johnson Central (KY).
The Comets were led by pitcher, Karina Shuster, who struck out 12 Golden Eagles in the game.
The Comets struck early in the second inning when Gloria Caserta singled home Shuster to open the scoring. Later in the inning, Lexi Fenton reached on an error, allowing Caserta to score and extend the lead to 2-0.
After a scoreless third, Amherst added to its lead in the fourth. Briana Blankenship doubled to left field and came all the way around to score on an error, making it 3-0.
The Comets created more separation in the fifth inning. Fenton led off with a triple, and Makenna Dorobek followed with an RBI single to push the lead to 4-0. Kayla Rhodes then doubled to left field, scoring Dorobek to push the Comets lead 5-0 after 5 innings.
Johnson Central mounted a late push with two runs in the sixth and one in the seventh, but Amherst held on for the 5-3 win.
