Softball wins 11-0 at Avon Lake

Softball collected 10 hits on Friday night in an 11-0 road win over Avon Lake.
The Comets wasted no time offensively, scoring four runs in the top of the first inning. Leah Sprague got Amherst on the board with a two-run double that scored Briana Blankenship and Sienna Rebman. Makenna Dorobek followed with an RBI double to plate Sprague before later scoring on a Karina Shuster ground out to give Amherst a 4-0 advantage.
Shuster was dominant in the circle, going the distance while striking out seven in the shutout victory.
Amherst added two more runs in the fifth inning as Shuster scored on a wild pitch and Morgan Lymer crossed the plate on a catcher’s error.
The Comets put the game away with a five-run seventh inning. Kayla Rhodes doubled home Shuster before later scoring on an error. Rebman then delivered the big blow with a two-run triple that scored Hailey Cleaver and Blankenship. Rebman eventually scored on a passed ball to cap the scoring.
