Track & Field Sends Six Events to OHSAA State Championships

Track & Field turned in historic performances at the OHSAA Division II Regional Meet held Wednesday and Friday at North Royalton High School, qualifying six events for next week’s OHSAA State Championships at Jesse Owens Stadium on the campus of Ohio State University.
On Wednesday, Camden Simo earned a runner-up finish in the discus with a school-record throw of 176’ 4”, while Cole Lugar captured the regional championship in the pole vault with a personal-best clearance of 15’ 4”. Teammate Grady Pellittieri also advanced to state, finishing second in the pole vault at 15’ 0”.
On Friday, Alex Sixbey continued Amherst’s dominance in the pole vault, winning the girls regional title with a school-record vault of 12’ 4”.
The boys sprint relay team of Carter Boone, Julius Donald, Gaige Patton, and Ben Thompson claimed a regional championship in the 4x200-meter relay with a time of 1:27.06. The quartet had already broken the school record during Wednesday’s preliminary round, clocking 1:26.87.
The boys 4x400-meter relay team of Carter Boone, Ben Dotson, Julius Donald, and Ben Thompson also delivered a memorable performance, setting a school record of 3:18.82 while edging Walsh Jesuit by one-hundredth of a second (3:18.83) to win the regional title.
Behind the outstanding performances, the Amherst boys team finished third overall in the regional team standings.
The OHSAA State Track & Field Championships will be held June 5-6 at Jesse Owens Stadium in Columbus.
