Volleyball Wins OHSAA District Championship

Volleyball team captured an OHSAA Division II Berea-Midpark District Championship on Thursday night, outlasting Walsh Jesuit in a thrilling five-set battle. The Comets prevailed by scores of 25-20, 25-18, 19-25, 18-25, and 15-12 to claim the district crown and advance to the regional tournament.
Amherst came out strong, taking the first two sets with steady serving and disciplined defense before Walsh Jesuit battled back to even the match at two sets apiece. The decisive fifth set tested the Comets’ resolve. Down 6-3 early, they rallied to tie the score at 6-6, fell behind again at 9-6, and then stormed back to close out the match 15-12.
Kendal Dobbins powered the Comet attack, including the final two points that sealed the victory. Hayley Russell delivered two clutch points down the stretch in the deciding set, and recorded a match-high five aces from the service line.
With the win, Amherst has now captured 12 victories in its last 14 matches, improving its overall record to 15-9. The Comets advance to the OHSAA Division II Streetsboro Regional, where they will face Avon next Thursday, October 30, at 6:00 p.m.
