Wrestling Wins On Senior Night

Wrestling celebrated Senior Night winning 60-19 over Midview in a home dual that honored nine Comet seniors and their families before the opening match.

Prior to the match, Amherst recognized seniors Noah Branham, Javiaun Bush, Chase Chandler, Carter Crawford, Canin Fritz, Jordan Hatfield, Cristian Nieves, Landon Reott, and Mathew Vidovich, each escorted by their parents as the program celebrated them in their last home match.

Once competition began, Amherst quickly seized control of the dual. The Comets opened with back-to-back forfeits at 106 and 113 pounds as Jax Percival and Devin Juristy picked up automatic victories to give Amherst an early lead.

Senior Chase Chandler added to the momentum at 120 pounds, needing just 38 seconds to secure a fall over Derek Cruz. Midview responded with wins at 126 and 132, including a major decision by Carrson Morris and a hard-fought overtime decision by Owen Costlow, but that would be the Middies last stretch of sustained success.

From 138 through 157 pounds, Amherst strung together five consecutive forfeits, with wins credited to Gabe Locker, Carter Crawford, Noah Branham, Gabe Shumney, and Isaac Vasquez, extending the Comets’ advantage and effectively putting the dual out of reach.

Midview picked up falls at 165 and 190 pounds, but Amherst seniors delivered the closing statements on Senior Night. Jordan Hatfield earned a fall at 215 pounds over Robert Cruz in 3:56, and Javiaun Bush closed the night with a forfeit win at heavyweight.
